Real World Externship Experiences

student externship

“In my 2L externship at DEKA, I collaborated with some of the world's most brilliant inventors creating cutting-edge technologies. It was legal work usually reserved for third-year associates.”

Alberto Interian

While most law schools with IP programs offer some form of externship opportunity, UNH Law offers an unmatched experience for second and third year law students, providing them with them opportunity to develop proficiency in IP professional skills and judgment, reflect about the practice of IP law and their future careers, and gain a proficiency in a specialized area of IP practice.

IP externships are a prime way that hundreds of Franklin Pierce Center for IP students have gained experience that has led to lucrative and fulfilling careers. Students uniformly report the benefits of externships as a “capstone experience” putting to use the work done at the Franklin Pierce Center for IP in settings with the real life demands of supervisors and clients.

IP externships make UNH Law a leader in providing the world with well trained, educated and experienced IP professionals. Among the advantages that UNH Law offers are:

  • One of the few full-time IP externship programs in the country. It emphasizes meeting both educational and career goals and offers IP externships for twelve (12) credits.
  • Two full time externship coordinators who work continuously to insure that the focus of the externship is on gaining the most beneficial education and experience.
  • IP externships in most major cities in the U.S., as well as in foreign countries
  • A program featuring diverse placements: law firms, corporations, U.S. Federal courts, and NGO's. Recent placements include Calvin Klein, Under Armour, Verizon, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
