If you have applied for admission as a member of the Class of 2016, you can begin the financial aid application process after January 1 for the upcoming academic year. While there is no deadline, you are encouraged to apply for financial aid as soon as possible.

If you are accepted and we have received the results of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically, we will prepare and mail to you a Financial Aid Award Letter that will list your eligibility in the various aid programs.

Financial Aid Award Letters will begin going out to students by the end of February. If you are chosen for verification, you will also need to provide our office with a a copy of your signed Federal Tax Return with W-2s. You will be notified by our office if this is required. Also, your student loans will be posted to your student account in two equal disbursements, usually in August and January.

Important Note: First-year students will not receive a refund check until the end of the first week of regular classes. Plan accordingly for security deposits, books, travel expenses, etc.

If you are a going to be a second- or third-year student for the upcoming academic year, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are chosen for verification, you will also need to provide our office with a a copy of your signed Federal Tax Return with W-2s from the previous tax year. You will be notified by our office if this is required.

While there is no deadline, you are encouraged to apply for financial aid as soon as possible to avoid delays in your aid being processed. Financial aid awards will be processed on a rolling basis beginning in March. Need-based UNH School of Law grants and Federal Perkins Loans will be awarded based on the availability of funds. Also, your student loans will be posted to your student account in two equal disbursements, usually in August and January.

Financial Aid Application and Loan Documents to be completed:

1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

File electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov. UNH School of Law's Title IV Code is G20979. Before you complete the form online, you must have a valid PIN and your previous year's income tax information. If you cannot recall your PIN or you do not have one, contact www.pin.ed.gov to obtain one. Important note: You are now at the graduate level of study, and you will be completing your FAFSA as an independent student. No tax information from your parents is needed.

2. Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan

The first time you borrow a Federal Direct Stafford Loan while attending UNH Law, you must complete a Federal Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Noteonline as well as Entrance Counseling. This can be done online at https://studentloans.gov. Students are advised to exhaust their Stafford Loan eligibility first before borrowing in the Graduate PLUS Loan program. You may borrow any amount up to the maximum amount listed on your financial aid award letter. The funds will be disbursed in two equal installments in August and January by the Business Office.

3. Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)

The first time you borrow a Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loanwhile attending UNH Law, you must complete a Federal Direct Graduate Plus Loan Master Promissory Noteonline as well as Entrance Counseling. This can be done online at https://studentloans.gov. You must also complete the Plus Request Process on the same website. This is where you can indicate the amount of Grad Plus Loan you would like to borrow. A credit check will be processed on your request and you will be notified immediately if you are approved or if an Endorser is required.

4. Perkins Loan – Master Promissory Note

For those awarded a Perkins Loan, a Master Promissory Note will be mailed to you with your Financial Aid Award Letter. You must complete it and return to the Financial Aid Office. In addition, you must complete a Perkins Loan Entrance Counseling online at www.mappingyourfuture.org before funds can be posted to your account.
