UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law Gift Funds

 

Ralph H. Baer Family Patent Scholarship Award

Established by the Baer Family to recognize the life achievement of inventor and UNH Franklin Pierce honorary degree recipient, Ralph Baer, HD ’07.  The scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students studying intellectual property and/or patent law. Preference is given to students who intend to practice in North America upon graduation.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Fund is to award a scholarship(s) annually to a student(s) enrolled at UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law who has (have) demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who, by their backgrounds, life experiences, and viewpoints will advance the university's goal of enhancing the educational experience through enrollment of a diverse student body.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Fund:

This fund will support the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law in its efforts to (1) increase diversity of the law school’s students, staff, and faculty, (2) create a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse community both within the law school and in the broader community, and (3) make additions and/or changes to the school’s educational programming to promote racial justice, including in the training of lawyers and the provision of legal services

Class of 1976 Trailblazers Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this Fund is to provide need-based scholarship support for students enrolled at UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law. The Fund honors the founders and the original faculty and staff of the Franklin Pierce Law Center at its inception in 1973.

Bruce E. Friedman Scholarship Fund

Established as a memorial initiated in 1997 to Bruce E. Friedman by the Friedman family with gifts from the family, friends, UNH Franklin Pierce faculty, staff and alumni, and legal and social welfare colleagues, this scholarship is awarded to a rising 2L or 3L law student who demonstrates a dedicated commitment to social justice and public interest law, preparing for a career that advances social justice through course work combining legal knowledge with practical skills, project development, and exposure to practice models for the delivery of legal services. 

Professor Emeritus Bill Hennessey (JD ’86) International Scholarship Fund

Established in honor of Professor Emeritus Bill Hennessey, the purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to students from outside of the United States, who, through their life experiences and education, will bring to the law school student body knowledge, understanding and perspective of an individual, culture or ethnic group.

Marcus B. Hurn Scholarship Fund

Established in 2021 in memory of Professor Marcus B. Hurn. The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to students enrolled at the law school in honor of Professor Marcus Hurn who passed in 2021. 

Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship Fund Award

Established as a partnership between UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law and the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association (NHBA) in honor of Agnes Winifred McLaughlin, the first woman admitted to practice law in New Hampshire back in 1917. The scholarship is awarded to a rising 2L law student.  Recipients must be in good academic standing and must demonstrate a commitment to advancing the interests of women in the legal field or broader community. 

Robert M. Viles Fellowship Fund

Established in honor of former President and long-time Dean of Franklin Pierce Law Center, Rober M Viles, to encourage and continue the long-standing Franklin Pierce Law Center tradition of educating, training and graduating law students committed to careers in Community Lawyering. The purpose of this Fund is to provide a merit-based scholarship to a full-time first year student at UNH Franklin Pierce. Preference is for a student pursuing a career in Community Lawyering with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate work with an LSAT score of 154 or higher.

Class of 1985 William Grimes Fund

General program support for law clinics at UNH Franklin Pierce which are designed to supplement classroom work with experiential learning opportunities to provide legal services for the public in the community. Income from the Fund may be used for but is not limited to stipends, scholarships, expenses related to academic experiences and related experiential learning opportunities such as conducting research and analysis, legal reasoning, litigation, contract drafting/review, project planning, and client interviewing and counseling.

Daniel Webster Scholar Honors Program

General program support for the DWS Program. The DWS program allows students to avoid the traditional bar exam post-graduation and take a version of the NH Bar over the last two years of their JD program. Students are sworn into the NH State Bar the day before graduation.

Health Law and Policy Program Fund

General program support for the Health Law & Policy Program at UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law which incorporates the intersection of intellectual property and health law.

Sports and Entertainment Law Institute

This fund provides general program support to the Sports and Entertainment Law Institute. The institute provides opportunities for students who demonstrate a talent and passion for sports and entertainment law with core skills in these practice areas and opportunities for thoughtful discussion of contemporary legal issues in the field.

Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property Fund

Provides general programing support for the IP Center at UNH Franklin Pierce.

Law Library Fund

Provides support for the Law Library at UNH Franklin Pierce. It can support collections, research, physical space improvement initiatives and more.

50th Anniversary Endowment

Also known as the UNH Franklin Pierce General Operations Endowment, is the general endowment for the law school specifically, not UNH. We hope to grow the endowment in honor of the law school’s 50th anniversary to provide greater security and stability to the school for another 50 years and beyond.

UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law Annual Fund

This is the main current use fund that is spent at the discretion of the Dean on the most pressing issues that face the law school on a daily basis.

Rudman Summer Fellows Program

Provides summer grant awards to students who are working in public interest related summer employment. This grant can cover living expenses, travel expenses, food, and more. This program shows students the importance of making pro bono work a focus in every legal career.

Class of 2020 Book Fund

An initiative of the Class of 2020, the Fund helps students enrolled at UNH Franklin Pierce with books for their classes.  

Robert J. Dole Veteran Fellowship

A merit scholarship to assist students who are veterans.

Student Professional Development Fund

Support for law students to participate in professional conferences, webinars, and other professional development opportunities, virtually or in person that advance professional networking and the knowledge of law for students.

UNH Franklin Pierce Law Class of 1994 Scholarship

Scholarships to students enrolled at UNH Franklin Pierce Law.  Preference to students studying intellectual property or public interest law alternating each year.

UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law Student Emergency Financial Assistance Fund

Support for students at the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law who are unable to meet essential expenses due to temporary or unexpected financial hardships. Ex: travel, utilities, textbooks, auto repairs, prescriptions etc.

Health and Wellbeing Program Fund: Established by members of the Class of 1997

The Fund provides support for general health and wellness programming to help ensure the health and wellbeing of law students enrolled at the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law.

The Barn 3.0 Fund: Founded by the First Hybrid Cohort, 2022

The Fund provides program support for the Hybrid JD in Intellectual Property, Technology, and Information Law at the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law. Income from the Fund may be used for but is not limited to curriculum development, emerging technologies, general programing, and need-based stipends, scholarships, travel expenses, and other activities that are related to the Hybrid JD program.
