Professor Peter J. McGovern holds a bachelor of arts from the Great Books program at the University of Notre Dame du Lac, Indiana; a doctorate in education from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion; a JD degree from Fordham University School of Law, NY, and a master’s in law (equivalent) from the US Army Judge Advocate General’s School, University of Virginia.
Professor McGovern has been the dean of four American law schools and the foundation dean of Notre Dame University School of Law, Sydney, Australia.
At the John Marshall School of Law, Chicago, he organized and administered the law school’s Centers of Excellence. In addition, he was the director of the Center of International Business and Trade Law at John Marshall.
Professor McGovern researches and presents in the areas of international business and trade in art, antiquities and cultural property. He is also active in the field of international trade and alternative dispute resolution. Professor McGovern is active in many local and international organizations, most especially the International Bar Association. He is also very active as a legal academic consultant.
Professor McGovern was most recently a visiting scholar at the University of Tasmania School of Law, Australia. He has recently returned from teaching international entertainment and art law at Handong Law School, Pohang, Korea.
