During 18 years of practice in the public and private sectors, Professor Wright handled civil trials and appeals in state, federal and bankruptcy courts on behalf of individual and corporate clients. His public service included four years as a member of the New Hampshire Worker’s Compensation Appeals Board, two years as the mediator for the New Hampshire Department of Labor, and 12 years as a Hearing Officer in the federal Medicare program. He has been actively involved in efforts to improve the administration of justice; in 1993 and 1995 he served as co-chair and chair of statewide conferences devoted to this subject. He has lectured at numerous CLE programs devoted to his areas of practice, and has handled a number of impact cases in the area of consumer protection. Professor Wright became Director of Clinical Programs, with the goal of showing students that the practice of law can be a fulfilling profession and that lawyers can be a positive force for change in our economic, cultural and social communities.
“Between college and law school, I spent four years working in a Legal Aid office in Pennsylvania while I considered whether to make the investment a JD degree represents. Through this experience, I observed the difference an advocate can make in the lives of persons confronting more powerful opponents and monolithic government systems. When I graduated from Pierce Law in 1980, I was awarded a Reginald Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship, through which I served as a staff attorney with New Hampshire Legal Assistance. In 1983 I entered private practice, where I spent the next 15 years learning to manage litigation, finances, technology and office systems efficiently, while developing a practice which included causes and clients not typically afforded access to our justice system. In the process, I was able to help develop consumer protection law in New Hampshire and pursue a professionally fulfilling practice. My goal for the clinics includes teaching students how to conduct a profitable practice while making an impact through their careers.”
