1L Embedded Workshops
Spring 2014

ASP offers weekly skill-building workshops for all 1Ls to develop and strengthen the learning strategies essential for law school success.  Workshops will be on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in room 201, beginning on 1/16/14 and ending on 4/24/14 (off for Spring Break).  Advance sign-up is not necessary, although attendance will be taken at each workshop.

Topics covered include:

  • Case briefing
  • Course outlining
  • Midterm and exam preparation

Workshops will teach skills with reference to the substance of two 1L classes:

  • Constitutional Law taught by Professor John Greabe
  • Constitutional Law taught by Professor Calvin Massey

Please attend the workshops for the class you are taking (from Prof. Greabe or Prof. Massey).  Please bring your materials for that class with you to each workshop, as well as any other materials that Professor Plunkett requests ahead of time via email.  Workshops will alternate weeks between these two classes, as detailed on the Calendar on the TWEN site (ASP 1L Embedded Programs) and below.

The general progression of the skills taught will be as follows, although this schedule is subject to change based on student interest and need:

  • First Semester Debrief: What to Continue & What to Change (1/16 Greabe, 1/23 Massey)
  • Advanced Rule Synthesis (1/30 Greabe, 2/6 Massey)
  • Midterm Strategizing (2/13 Greabe, 2/20 Massey)
  • From the Classroom to the Workplace: Learning on the Job (3/6 Greabe, 3/13 Massey)
  • Managing Test Anxiety (3/20 Greabe, 3/27 Massey)
  • Exam Essay Writing (4/3 Greabe, 4/10 Massey)
