Legal Career Tool Kit – How to Research Employers
There are a variety of resources that can help you identify employers who would be interested in hiring you and for researching specific employers to find out what you need to know before an interview or before sending out an application. Below are links to online resources you can consult, and descriptions of resources you can find only in the Career Services office.

Firms
NALP Directory of Employers
Thorough information about NALP law firms members, including billable hours required and salaries. Users can do a mail merge from this site. NB: not all law firms are members of NALP, so this site is not a complete list of law firms.
Martindale Hubbell
Probably the most used web site for finding attorneys and law firms. You can search by law school, area of practice, location, and more.
Vault Library
More information that you can probably use, the Vault Library has law firm profiles, quality of life reports, and guides on every area of practice you can think of. We pay for a membership, you are allowed to download and/or print anything you find in the Vault Library. Contact Career Services for a password.
Top Trademark and Patent Firms
Intellectual Property Today magazine publishes lists of the top 300 law firms that filed the most patents or trademarks for the previous year.
New Hampshire Firms
The Career Services office list of large and medium size law firms in the Granite State.
Fresh Patents
Fresh Patents monitors patent applications filed by law firms and corporations. Click on "Agents? and you can search firms and corporations alphabetically. Updated each week. This is an excellent resource for pre–interview research.
Salary Calculator
Want to find out how much you would have to make in New York City to replace your $40,000 salary in Manchester, NH? This site has all 50 states and most cities within each state so you can compare cost of living, not just straight salaries.
Career Services Office
In the Career Services Office, you can find firm files and recruitment binders full of helpful information about firms coming on campus, including firm brochures, firm resumes and other marketing materials, a hard copy of the NALP directory, Summer Evaluation Forms containing information on where students worked in previous years.
Corporations
Directory of Corporate Counsel
Two volume set located in the Career Services Office. Contains listings of corporations and their counsel according to state, name, and law school.
Directory of New England Corporate Counsel
Organized alphabetically by state, industry and by company or organization within the industry. Located in the Career Services Office.
International Trademark Association Member Directory
Contains the names and contact information for in–house trademark counsel. Become a student member for $25.00, and you can have on–line access to the directory.
Annual Survey of Massachusetts Corporate Counsel
Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly conducted the 2005 Survey of Corporate Counsel by sending questionnaires to leaders of in–house legal departments throughout the region. Survey findings are highlighted in charts and graphs, and participants are printed in alphabetical order by company name. Located in the Career Services Office.
Nonprofits
Association of University Technology Managers, AUTM
If you are interested in Technology Transfer, this is the organization for you. The Membership Directory is available in the Career Services Office in print and on CD.
