Children & The Law

This course provides students with an overview of an array of issues involving children, their parents and the state. Topics will include child welfare; delinquency; parenting responsibilities and child support; medical issues and the right to obtain medical care including abortion; the right to a fair and appropriate education; bullying; internet use and restriction, among other topics. The course is designed to cover the law on a national and state level utilizing both federal and state case law and statutes that impact children and parents.

This class is based in the practicalities of legal practice. Students will be expected to complete written assignments, present oral arguments in class and complete forms as well as read, analyze and discuss case law and statutory authority.
