The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the ideas and concepts of "Privacy" and "Publicity" within the law lexicon and especially in the worlds of Art, Entertainment and Sports. Steeped in the tort of "false light" the student will learn the means to protect their client's control of the use of the client's image. In addition, the student will learn the means by which a client might exploit this same image. In light of the prevalence of the use of the Internet, the student will learn further means to protect image and privacy on this medium. The student will be able to recognize the complexity of protection of personal rights. The student will be able to recognize the difference between "privacy rights" and "publicity rights". The student will be able to assist the client in knowing the difference between these two divergent concepts and the means to offer solutions to the ensuing legal problems.
