This course is an upper level moot court competition. Registrants must be selected through the Moot Court Board tryouts in August of each year. UNH School of Law has sent two teams to the Willem Vis International Arbitration competition in Vienna, Austria in recent years. Teams also compete in at least one "pre-moot" in the United States before competing internationally.
This international moot court competitions is excellent opportunities for students to continue their legal writing and research skills following the first year skills courses, as well as to pursue interest in the substantive law of international arbitration under CISG. This competition has two students per team, coached by a 3L board member. The teams usually share brief writing responsibilities, dividing tasks into substantive and procedural issues. The problem is released in late Fall. Teams analyze the moot court problem, perform the legal research, formulate their strategy, and then write their arbitration briefs. Once students submit their briefs, they begin preparation for oral argument. Coaches arrange practice schedules using other students, faculty, and guests as judges to prepare teams for national competition. Students then travel to the Vis pre-moot court competitions to practice for this unique competition. After these extensive preparations, students travel to Austria for competition against teams from around the world. For further information about the Vis competition, visit:
