Letter from Conference Chair

Dear Colleagues:

We are eagerly planning our inaugural 2011 national conference on ending domestic and sexual violence and we would like to thank you for your interest. This conference is a collaborative effort of the University of New Hampshire School of Law, the University of New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

How does this conference differ from other violence against women conferences?

Every year, many excellent conferences on domestic violence and sexual assault take place around the country. Our conference differs because it focuses on the collaboration between research and practice as well covering subject areas across the spectrum of domestic violence and sexual assault and abuse. Our conference will offer a unique opportunity for collaboration between researchers and practitioners from a broad array of disciplines.  This conference will provide a platform for participants to share, integrate and critique both new research and promising practices in the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Who should attend? Are students welcome?

We are especially interested in both researchers and practitioners, including, but not limited to, attorneys, mental health professionals, and law enforcement focusing on various aspects of domestic or sexual violence. Students are encouraged to attend.

A major theme of the conference will focus on demonstrating how practice informs research as well as how research and evaluation improve the delivery of services to victims of sexual assault and/or domestic violence.  We expect that many fruitful collaborations will arise from this meeting.

CLE credits

CLE information will be forthcoming.

What is the conference format?

We expect 300 participants from around the country to attend our conference. There are three types of presentations that will take place at our conference.

The first is our invited program, where outstanding leaders in the field will present their latest findings or innovative practices in the field in a plenary session format.

The second format is a panel format where individuals will be grouped based on the topic of the panel and each individual will have approximately 20 minutes to present a paper.

We will also accept proposals for panels comprised of three or four papers focused on one theme. The topic panels will be organized around four broad themes: homicide prevention and domestic abuse; addressing barriers victims face in reporting, accessing services, and leaving the violence and abuse; approaches for assisting particular groups of sexual assault and abuse victims including the elderly and children; and current hot topics.

Our final format is a poster format, and we will have the poster sessions running throughout the three-day conference.
