Kevin Carroll is the Field Family Intellectual Property Visiting Assistant Professor and had been an adjunct faculty member at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (and previously Franklin Pierce Law Center) since 1996. He has taught Patent Practice and Procedure, Patent Law, and Intellectual Property Management and has taught residential courses, online courses, and hybrid courses. Professor Carroll began teaching Patent Practice and Procedure with the late Professor Bob Shaw, the originator of the program, and helped to pioneer the current format of the program. He also served as the Acting Director of the Patent Practice and Procedure Program during the 2006-2007 academic year, and he taught Patents during the E-Law Summer Institute (ELSI) at the University College Cork in Ireland during summers from 2006-2012.
Professor Carroll has over 35 years of experience in the patent field. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and completed his law degree at Franklin Pierce Law Center. Before law school, he worked as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Professor Carroll was also a founding partner of the intellectual property law firm Secant IP, PLLC in Manchester, NH, where his practice has focused on patent prosecution, patent clearances and opinions, licensing, and IP counseling on a wide range of technologies. He was selected as the top IP attorney in New Hampshire by Business NH Magazine in 2010. Professor Carroll is also a past Chair of the NH EPSCoR Statewide Committee, past President of the Notre Dame Club of New Hampshire, and former Secretary and Board Member at the ABI Innovation Hub (now Alpha Loft).
When he is not teaching or practicing law, Professor Carroll may be found playing guitar, biking, skiing, cooking barbeque, and fishing, kayaking or sailing on Bow Lake.
