The law school takes the 5th spot for intellectual law programs, ranking in the top 10 for nearly 30 years.

Concord, NH (March 17, 2020) – The University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law once again excels in the 2021 US News & World Report rankings, taking the 5th spot for best intellectual property programs.  The school remains in the top 100 law schools, ranking 88th overall.

“This year was a banner year for the law school,” said Dean Megan Carpenter.  “We introduced the country’s first Hybrid Juris Doctor program in Intellectual Property which allows students to keep their jobs while pursuing their dream of becoming a lawyer.  We reintegrated Franklin Pierce back into our name.  We took nearly 50 IP students to Silicon Valley this January to learn directly from heads of industry at Apple, Google, Intel, Microsoft and others.  These efforts boosted our already strong brand in the marketplace and because of these shifts, we increased our class size by 50%, enrolled more students with a background in STEM, all while maintaining our strong admissions standards.  It’s a testament to the vision we have for the law school.”

UNH Franklin Pierce has ranked in the top 10 for intellectual property since the US News & World Report specialty rankings began 29 years ago.  The school has some of the most robust resources in intellectual property.  Half the faculty practice and teach in the area, and the school boasts one of the largest academic IP libraries in the Western Hemisphere.  Graduates of the program go on to lead policy and practice at Fortune 500 companies, global law firms, and governments including Bayer, Disney, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, PepsiCo., Samsung, the US Patent and Trademark Office, WeWork, and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The law school practices excellence in all areas of law, including social justice.  The Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Service serves as a hub for public discourse on the policies and current events that shape our society.  The Center provides scholarships to students who have an interest in public service law and awards stipends for students working in government agencies and public service organizations.

In addition, the law school isn’t afraid to be first, debuting the country’s first bar-alternative program.  The Daniel Webster Scholar Honors Program allows highly qualified students to start practicing law as licensed attorneys the day after graduation, without having to take the traditional bar exam.

“We’re innovating legal education here,” said Carpenter.  “And people are starting to notice.  What we’re doing today, other law schools will be doing tomorrow.  Our rankings are just another signal to that end.”

The law school is currently accepting applications for its JD, Hybrid JD, LLM, master’s, and certificate programs.  For more details on the degrees offered and how to apply, please contact our Admissions department
