The University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (Franklin Pierce) and Universidad Panamericana (UP) are pleased to announce a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing academic and cultural exchanges between the two esteemed institutions.
Signed on July 26, 2024, this MOU marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Franklin Pierce, renowned for its excellence in Intellectual Property education, and UP, a prestigious institution based in Mexico. The agreement is designed to promote mutual understanding and academic, cultural, and personnel exchange and training in intellectual property.
Key Areas of Collaboration Include:
- Master of Laws (LLM) Scholarship: Qualified UP students and alumni admitted to Franklin Pierce’s LLM programs in Intellectual Property or Commerce and Technology will benefit from a special partial tuition scholarship.
- Intellectual Property Summer Institute (IPSI): UP students and faculty are invited to participate in Franklin Pierce’s IP Summer Institute with special arrangements for UP professors to participate at significantly discounted rates.
- Faculty Exchange: The institutions will facilitate faculty exchanges, enabling professors to visit and engage in teaching and research activities at each other’s campuses. This includes delivering lectures, teaching short courses, and utilizing library resources.
Dean Megan Carpenter of Franklin Pierce expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Universidad Panamericana. This MOU represents a significant step forward in enhancing IP education and providing valuable opportunities for students and faculty from both institutions. As part of our global strategy to expand educational opportunities across Latin America, this partnership will further our commitment to fostering international academic excellence.”
Arturo Ishbak Gonzalez, LLM ‘15 and Senior Corporate Counsel The LEGO Group, and an instrumental figure in the formation of this partnership, states, “The Master of Laws in IP program boosted my career by helping me to get a job through Optional Practical Training at one of the largest IP law firms in the U.S. This later helped secure senior and decision-making positions at multinational companies in my home country. Also, I still use everything I learned at Franklin Pierce in the IP classes I teach at Universidad Panamericana. I trust the new partnership with Universidad Panamericana will give Mexican students the best IP education from the two best law schools for IP in Mexico and the U.S. Then, I will always recommend law students or junior lawyers pursue master’s degrees abroad, and for that, the best option is Franklin Pierce.”
