Sumit Kushwaha: Reflections on the LLM Student Experience

Hello! My name is Sumit Kushwaha, and I am excited to tell you about my first semester in the LLM in Intellectual Property program at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (UNH Franklin Pierce).

Student life at UNH Franklin Pierce has been filled with moments that were completely unforgettable – my first snow, an LLM class trip to Boston, a Fall hike at the Flume Gorge in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and so much more.

In the fall, soon after the end of orientation and the start of classes, the Student Life Office organized a weekend hike at the Flume Gorge. It was a spectacular experience. We were surrounded by tall cliffs, narrow walkways, and rushing water; the trail felt both peaceful and adventurous. Walking through the gorge with new friends from the LLM and JD programs, pausing for photos, and sharing laughs along the way made the experience feel like something out of a postcard. It was a great way to appreciate the beautiful scenery New Hampshire offers and get to know my colleagues from the US and around the world.

As LLM Governor for the Student Bar Association I helped to organize a class trip to Boston, Massachusetts, about a 1-hour bus ride

from our law school campus in Concord, New Hampshire. This was such a special day and a highlight of my experience so far. Traveling with classmates, riding through the city, and seeing historic locations made the day feel both educational and fun. We explored side streets, tried new foods like clam chowder, and wandered around like tourists.

The first snowfall changed everything overnight. Paths, fields, and rooftops were suddenly covered in white, and walking to class felt quieter and softer than usual. My classmates and I tossed snowballs at each other, took photos, and tried to capture that feeling of seeing campus transformed for the first time. It was a magical experience.

All these moments – the natural beauty of Flume Gorge, the city lights of Boston, and the snow falling on campus – turned my time at UNH Franklin Pierce into more than just classes and homework and gave me stories and experiences that will remain vivid and meaningful for years to come.
