International intellectual property law and entrepreneurship will intersect during a Nov. 7 webinar, featuring Pooja Dodd, LLM ’02, and Mohak Rana, LLM ’20, UNH Franklin Pierce Professor Seth Oranburg, and Assistant Dean for Graduate Admissions & International Outreach Sarah Dorner.
In the online session, the four panelists will answer live questions on Zoom, while exploring the dynamic relationship between academics and entrepreneurship within the global intellectual property landscape, offering practical insights on the field.
Dodd is a self-proclaimed “law-pretreneur,” who earned a specialized LLM in intellectual property from UNH Franklin Pierce. After holding partnership positions at one of India’s largest full-service law firms and a boutique IP firm, Dodd ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship as the founder of Dodd & Co. She has a wealth of expertise in the diverse realms of IP, including enforcement, prosecution, litigation, and transactions.
Reflecting on her time as a student at an American law school, Dodd remains grateful for the connections she made with her classmates and UNH Franklin Pierce alumni, with a network that extends across the world
“The bonds created during the LLM have been everlasting,” Dodd says. “[UNH Franklin Pierce] provided me with a solid foundation to deal with practical aspects of law and real-life cases. The exposure to diverse legal perspectives, specialized courses, and networking opportunities equipped me to advance my career and eventually set up my own practice.”
Fellow “law-pretreneur” Rana is the founder and managing attorney at Yukti, where he and his team focus on litigation for a variety of clients. He is also a lecturer at Jindal Global Law School, where he teaches several courses, including Intellectual Property Rights. UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law has had a longstanding relationship with Jindal Global Law School, highlighted by our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Prior to pursuing his LLM at UNH Franklin Pierce, Rana graduated from NMIMS Kirit P. Mehta School of Law with his integrated bachelor’s in business management and law, with a focus on criminal and IP law. He holds advanced certifications from WIPO in IP Management, Trademark, and Copyright and has completed the Harvard Law School course CopyrightX.
Rana was the inaugural recipient of Royzz & Co.’s scholarship for international students admitted to the IP graduate program at UNH Franklin Pierce. He says he chose to study at the law school because he believed the opportunity to specialize in one area of the profession would give him a boost as an expert in his home country of India.
Panelist Seth Oranburg teaches courses in IP & Entrepreneurship and Trade Secrets Law at UNH Franklin Pierce. His research focuses on the intersection of law, technology, and innovation. His recent publication: “A Systems Approach: Teaching Intellectual Property in our Interconnected World” explores the shift from a fragmented to a holistic systems approach in intellectual property education that integrates patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets into a unified curriculum
As assistant dean for graduate admissions, Sarah Dorner is the primary contact for international outreach, engagement activities, and global partnerships at UNH Franklin Pierce. She directs all admissions functions for the school’s on-campus and online LLM, master’s, and graduate certificate programs.
The international IP and entrepreneurship webinar will give participants an introduction to the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the global IP landscape and discover how the academic offerings, practice-oriented teaching approach, and extensive network of UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law can fuel students’ entrepreneurial ambitions.
“The highlight of my educational experience at UNH Franklin Pierce,” Dodd says, “was the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with professors and peers from diverse cultural and legal backgrounds.”
