David M. Stamatis To Receive the 13th Annual Bruce E. Friedman Pro Bono Award on Oct. 23

Award Ceremony Will Take Place During The James E. Duggan and Bruce E. Friedman Reception

Join us on Oct. 23 as we present the 13th Annual Bruce E. Friedman Pro Bono Award to Attorney David M. Stamatis, Esq., Parnell, Michels & McKay, PLLC.  We are also excited to present the inaugural Professor James E. Duggan Scholarship to 3L students planning careers as public defenders. The UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law established the Professor James E. Duggan Scholarship Fund to honor his memory.

The Annual Bruce E. Friedman Pro Bono Award honors a University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law graduate and member of the New Hampshire bar who exemplifies Bruce Friedman’s commitment to representing the indigent through exemplary pro bono service. The Bruce E. Friedman Pro Bono Award is sponsored by The Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership & Public Service and 603 Legal Aid.

David M. Stamatis

David M. Stamatis has been with Parnell, Michels & McKay, PLLC since 2016, becoming a partner in 2023.  David joined the firm shortly after graduating from the Daniel Webster’s Scholar Program at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law. He is also a 2012 graduate of Saint Anselm College Honors Program in Manchester, New Hampshire.

While in law school, he also served as the managing editor of IDEA: The Journal of the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property, and a teacher’s assistant for Alternative Dispute Resolution. In 2015, he received a Rudman Summer Fellowship. 
 During law school, David worked in a Congressional Office, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, the 10th Circuit Court in Brentwood, New Hampshire, and a private New Hampshire Law Firm.
 David was admitted to the New Hampshire Bar Association in May of 2016, the Federal District of New Hampshire in July of 2016, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire in 2017 and the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals in 2019. He is currently a member of the New Hampshire Bar’s Family Law Section and a former member of the Webster-Batchelder American Inn of Court.


David is the firm’s Appellate attorney and a member of its Family Law team. He has successfully argued before the New Hampshire Supreme Court and has written briefs for successful arguments before the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals. 
In the last calendar year, David was among the top five pro bono contributors in the New Hampshire Bar. David regularly has multiple pro bono family law cases at any given time at different stages of litigation. Also, he has contributed his expertise and representation to the veterans’ legal assistance group “Boots on the Ground/Veterans Law Project,” now Veterans Legal Justice. In addition, David, along with all of Parnell, Michels & McKay, regularly contributes to the New Hampshire Bar’s Lawline service. Since becoming a lawyer in 2016, David has had at least one pro bono case active at any given time, either through 603 Legal Aid or private practice.
