The Office of Career Services is proud to join the Rudman Center in administering Rudman Center Summer Public Service Fellowship Awards. The 2023 Rudman Summer Fellow class is comprised of an unprecedented 85 1L and 2L students. In addition to the traditional public interest opportunities with non-profit legal services organizations, public defenders’ offices, and judicial internships at all levels, students will be serving New Hampshire residents at the Governor’s Office, Office of Professional Licensure and Certification, School Board Association, Insurance Department, Commission for Human Rights, and various County Attorneys’ offices.
Almost 20% of 2023 Summer Fellows sought out and landed out-of-state opportunities, including in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and in the District of Columbia. Some unique out-of-state opportunities include internships with Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Rocky Mountain Victim Law Center in Colorado, and Veterans Legal Institute in California.
Several students will be conducting athletic compliance for NCAA colleges, including at the University of New Hampshire, Sacred Heart University, University of Virginia, and Utica University.
According to Judy Prosper, Director of Career Services, “The subject matter and geographical variety of internships reflects UNH Franklin Pierce Law School’s commitment to fostering public service in traditional and unique areas of the law in places where students wish to make a difference. The law school is proud to support experiential opportunities with financial assistance to allow students to accept positions with non-profit and government entities around the country.”
We look forward to hearing from all our students about their experiences as Rudman Summer Fellows and to sharing them with the greater community. Taylor Vitti, a Rudman Summer Fellow from the 2022 program remarked, "It definitely made me more passionate about education law. My supervisor was so incredibly helpful, and I think through putting in a lot of time and effort and showing I cared, he gave that back to me.”
Watch Rudman Summer Fellows Joshua Salazar 2L, Jonathan Super 2L, Taylor Vitti 2L, and Jacob Watts 3L, describe their 2022 Fellowship experiences during interviews with Rudman Center Engagement Director Laura Knoy. See here for how the program works.
