Student Jacob Watts discusses his experience as a Rudman Summer Fellow with Laura Knoy, Rudman Center Community Engagment Director.

Jacob Watts, 3L, from Massachusetts.  Jacob worked at the New Hampshire Public Defender’s office, a long-time goal of his.  “I got to meet with clients and write motions and all the stuff that a normal attorney would do in the office.”  Advocating for clients, he says, was especially rewarding.  In one case, he helped get a woman out on bail who likely would have lost her job and her home if she’d remained incarcerated. “It was pretty contested but seeing how grateful she was at the end of that and getting to understand a little bit about her was a really meaningful experience for me.”  Jacob’s fellowship experience also led to his dream job: working for the New Hampshire Public Defender’s office.
