Candidates for the Second Congressional District delved into some of today’s most vexing foreign-policy challenges during recent forums at the UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law.  The events were presented by the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire (WACNH), the UNH Carsey School of Public Policy, and the Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership & Public Service. Tim Horgan of WACNH moderated the discussions, which included audience questions.

Among the topics discussed with Democrat Maggie Goodlander and Republican Lily Tang Williams:

  • The proper role of the United States in dealing with the Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine conflicts, including the extent to which the United States should offer military and monetary support to its allies.
  • Relations between the United States and China, and how the United States should handle tensions over economic competition and Taiwan’s future.
  • The role of the International Criminal Court in promoting human rights and prosecuting crimes against humanity.
  • Immigration issues, including border security and the rights of refugees and asylees.
  • Balancing the right to free speech with social-media regulations that target foreign interference.
