Career Services at UNH Franklin Pierce is devoted to helping students find jobs and excel in the workforce.

By the end of their initial semester of law school, all first-year students at UNH Franklin Pierce have a head start on a legal résumé. They also have met one-on-one with a career counselor to begin developing a career strategy and have started to learn the skills that ultimately will increase their competitiveness in the job market.

“UNH Franklin Pierce provides a unique combination of individualized student counseling and formal training, beginning in students’ first semester of law school,” explains Interim Dean of Career Services Neil Sirota. “The Legal Profession course, taught in that first semester, gives students exposure to a wide range of legal practice areas, allowing them to begin to develop their career interests and goals.”

Sirota arrived at the law school in April, with many years of experience in guiding students on their career paths. He spent four years in career services at Penn State Law, most recently as assistant dean. He served as associate dean of career services at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at New York’s Yeshiva University, as a professional career program manager at St. George’s University School of Medicine, and as a career advisor for the company he founded, Inflection Life, where he worked with students—from high school through post-graduate—to help them achieve career goals. As a law school graduate himself (Columbia ’99), Sirota understands the importance of making career counselors available to offer guidance to fledgling lawyers.

At UNH, Sirota has been impressed by the outstanding reputation law students have within New Hampshire and the wider legal community. They also benefit from the support of faculty mentors and the Career Services team, which is committed to coaching and encouraging each student to reach their full potential and find gainful employment.

“Students benefit from a top-tier academic curriculum,” he says. “Between our clinics, residency opportunities, and intensive career development, beginning in the first year, our students are uniquely prepared to excel in the workforce.”
